Many university students highlight (or underline) in the textbooks. However, you need to identify the most importance and less importance of the points to be more effective in learning. Read first to determine what is important, and then highlight. Instead of entire sentences, highlight only key phrases. If you highlight more than one-fourth of any page, you’re probably overdoing it.
Do not allow this to become a mechanical activity. And it may be a waste of time learning.
Reading can be more effective when highlighting it. You can use page margins to write questions, reactions or definitions based on headings, classical questions or summary answers. We recommend a red pen for key points and another color for other details. Try reviewing the notes and highlighted issues before closing the book and answering questions at the end of the chapter.
